Rex Ryan
Rex Ryan, a former head coach for the Jets and Bills, was known for his unpredictable and entertaining media sessions, his colorful quotes, and penchant for swearing excessively, especially to referees and his players. Born in 1962 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Ryan's father was defensive guru Buddy Ryan, who coached most notably for the Eagles and Super Bowl champion Bears. Rex followed his father's footsteps, becoming a defensive coordinator before taking over the Jets’ coaching job in 2009. On the sidelines, f-bombs constantly rained from Ryan’s mouth, and he was highly demonstrative, celebrating by saying “Bam!” or “Boom!” followed by a simulated punch. In 2010 training camp, at the end of a passionate, expletive-filled speech challenging his team to do better, Ryan famously said: “Let’s go eat a goddamn snack.” Later that season, after losing a game 45-3 to Patriots, Ryan took his team out near the Jets’ practice field, where he buried a ball in a hole – a “funeral for the football,” he called it. Ryan led the Jets to two AFC Championship appearances in his first two seasons. But then things went south. Ryan never had a winning season over his next 4 years with the Jets. Years after saying "I never came here to kiss Bill Belichick's rings," Ryan was fired after the 2014 season, having won no Super Bowl titles with the Jets. Ryan coached the Bills in 2015 and 2016, going 15-16.
