Randy Moss
Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss might’ve been the most talented wideout ever, but controversies tarnished his legacy. A high-leaping 6-foot-4 with a sprinter’s speed, Moss – nicknamed “The Freak” – was nearly impossible to cover. After being chosen 21st overall with the Vikings out of Marshall, he caught a league-best 17 touchdowns in his rookie year, one of five seasons in which he tied or led the NFL in TDs. A master of catching deep passes and jump balls – and making one-handed grabs – Moss had over 1,000 receiving yards ten times and finished with 156 receiving TDs, second most all-time. There were antics, though. During an end zone celebration at Lambeau Field in 2005, Moss pretended to moon the crowd, which commentator Joe Buck called “a disgusting act” and which cost Moss a $10,000 fine. Soon afterward, Moss was traded to Oakland. In 2007, with New England, Moss caught 23 touchdowns, a single-season record. For lengthy period of his career, questions about his dedication and heart overshadowed some of his considerable production. Moss, who was traded back to Minnesota and – despite six Pro Bowls in his career – played for five different teams.
