Steve Smith Sr.
At just 5-foot-9, Steve Smith, Sr. was one of the most fearless receivers in NFL history. The Los Angeles native attended junior college, the University of Utah, and then was selected in the third round of the 2001 NFL Draft before becoming a five-time Pro Bowler with the Panthers. Smith had eight 1,000-yard receiving seasons and in 2005, Smith tied or led the NFL in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He was a major trash talker who constantly engaged in shoving matches or worse, occasionally with his own teammates. On two separate occasions, Smith broke a teammate’s nose, once during a film session. Over his career, which spanned 16 seasons, Smith himself suffered excruciating injuries, including broken bones in his back, neck, and leg. He also battled depression, he later admitted, and retired as a Raven in 2016 with 14,731 career receiving yards. Currently, Smith is working as a NFL Network analyst. Smith has also done charity work supporting victims of domestic violence, reads the Bible, and posted philosophical quotes on his Twitter page from people like Kurt Vonnegut, Vincent Van Gogh, and Mother Teresa.
