Jim Mora
In the regular season, Jim Mora won 125 games and lost 106 as an NFL coach between 1986 and 2001, but – like Jets coach Herman Edwards – it was a press conference rant that has overshadowed his legacy. When Mora took over the Saints, the franchise had never posted a winning record in 19 seasons. But in Mora’s second year, New Orleans went 12-3 and made the postseason, one of four playoff appearances during his tenure there. Still, he became known for his post-game tirades, like when, following a loss to the Panthers in 1996, he invented the word “diddly-poo” to describe his team’s offensive effectiveness. But Mora, who posted a 13-3 record as Colts’ coach in 1999 yet faltered in the postseason (his career playoff record was 0-6) had his most infamous moment in 2001 when, after a loss dropped the team’s record to 4-6, a reporter asked Mora about the team’s playoff chances. "Ah - playoffs?" Mora answered, his high-pitched voice cracking in disbelief. "Don’t talk about – playoffs?! You kiddin’ me? Playoffs?! I just hope we can win a game!” The scene inspired many spin-offs, from beer commercials to NFL ad campaigns, and to this day fans continue to mimic Mora’s voice when relevant and, for those who actually spot Mora in public, remind him about it.
