Jim McMahon
Jim McMahon, the former head-band wearing player known as Mad Mac and the Punky QB, was the rebellious and unapologetically outspoken quarterback of the 1985 Chicago Bears’ Super Bowl team. One of the rappers in their “Super Bowl Shuffle,” McMahon – 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds – sported sunglasses, drove motorbikes shirtless, stuck out his tongue at cameras and buzzed his head into a variety of hairdos, including a Mohawk. He once blew his nose on a reporter whose question he hated, and mooned a helicopter hovering above a Bears’ practice before the Super Bowl. Another time, after Commissioner Pete Rozelle warned McMahon against wearing his white Adidas headband in the NFC Championship game, McMahon wore a headband instead that said “Rozelle.” “I’ll tell you what I think,” McMahon once said. “Whether you want to hear it or not, that’s your problem.” On the field, McMahon, who made a Pro Bowl in 1985, battled injuries throughout a 15-year career in which he played for six teams.
