Jerome Bettis
Jerome Bettis, whose nickname was “The Bus” because of his burly physique and his punishing style, was a 5-foot-11, 255-pound running back who made six Pro Bowls and later inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015. Born in Detroit in 1972, Bettis was the tenth overall pick in the 1993 Draft after a three-year college career at Notre Dame. As a 21-year-old rookie with the Rams, he rushed for 1,429 yards and was named an All-Pro and the league’s Rookie of the Year. He rushed for over 1,000 yards each season between 1996 and 2001 playing for the Steelers, including 1,665 yards in 1997. He won a Super Bowl in his hometown of Detroit after his final season, the 2005 campaign, and his 13,662 career rushing yards ranks seventh in NFL history. These days, he hosts “The Jerome Bettis Show” on Pittsburgh television.
