Thurman Thomas
Thurman Thomas is the Buffalo Bills’ all-time leading rusher, with nearly 12,000 yards for the franchise. For eight straight seasons in the late 1980s and 1990s, the 5-foot-10, 206-pound Thomas, who was a second round pick of Buffalo out of Oklahoma State in 1988, gained over 1,000 yards on the ground. Thomas’ versatility enabled him to become the 1st player in NFL history with 1,000+ rush yards and 500+ receiving yards in 4 straight seasons; this unusual ability to catch passes out of the backfield was key to the Bills’ no-huddle, high-octane passing game. Before Thomas’ arrival, the Bills had gone six straight seasons without a winning record and hadn’t won a playoff game since they were an AFL team in the 1960s. But with Thomas in the backfield, Buffalo played in four straight Super Bowls in the 1990s. Thomas was the league MVP in 1991, was named to five Pro Bowls in his 13 NFL seasons, and was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.
