Dan Rooney, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was a key figure in the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers as well as the NFL. The son of the franchise’s founder, Art Rooney, Dan Rooney served in various top roles with the Steelers starting in the 1960s, including as its general manager, president, and owner. During Rooney’s tenure as an executive and chairman, the Steelers won six Super Bowl titles. Before that, the Steelers had never won a playoff game since Rooney’s father had founded the team in 1933. Dan Rooney was chairman of NFL's Diversity Committee and the namesake behind NFL's Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview minority candidates for head coaching vacancies.
