AFC Wild Card - "Music City Miracle"
Nashville is known as “Music City,” and on January 8, 2000 its pro football stadium, the Adelphia Coliseum, was the setting for a miracle finish for the hometown Tennessee Titans. The first half of their Wild Card playoff game against Buffalo was all Tennessee, which led 12-0. But the Bills, thanks to a pair of Antowain Smith rushing touchdowns, took a 13-12 lead in the fourth. With under two minutes to play, each team connected on a field goal, and with just seconds to go, Buffalo had a one-point lead and was on the verge of victory. Upon receiving the Bills' kickoff, Titans FB Lorenzo Neal handed the ball off to TE Frank Wychek, who threw a long pass across the field to wide receiver Kevin Dyson. Dyson, following blockers, ran easily down the sideline and stayed in front of the out-of-position Bills’ special teams for the game-winning touchdown. The hard-to-believe play was reviewed and the on-field call, of a legal lateral from Wychek to Dyson, was confirmed. The Titans would upset the Colts and Jaguars in consecutive road games to reach the Super Bowl, the franchise’s first.
