The coldest and most mythical game in NFL history, “The Ice Bowl,” was the league’s 1967 Championship matchup between the Cowboys and Packers at Lambeau Field. Despite a wind chill of negative 48 degrees, over 50,000 Green Bay fans watched as the two-time defending champion Packers surged to a 14-0 lead on two touchdown passes by Bart Starr. But a defensive fumble return for a touchdown by the Cowboys’ George Andrie, followed by a Dallas field goal, made it 14-10, Green Bay, at the half. In the fourth quarter, the Tom Landry-coached Cowboys made it 17 unanswered points when Dan Reeves and Lance Rentzel connected on a 50-yard pass play. That set up perhaps the most iconic goal-line encounter ever in pro football: after Starr led the Packers down the frozen field, Green Bay had the ball less than a yard from the goal line with 16 seconds left. On third down, with no timeouts remaining, Starr scored on quarterback sneak to defeat the Cowboys, 21-17. The Packers would go on to win a 2nd straight Super Bowl title with their coach, Vince Lombardi.
