AFC Wild Card - "The Comeback"
At Rich Stadium in Buffalo on January 3, 1993, the Bills pulled off the biggest comeback in NFL history. Playing against the Oilers in a Wild Card game, the Bills’ streak of two straight Super Bowl appearances looked to be over after Houston – following four first half Warren Moon TD passes and a 58-yard interception return in the third quarter – took a stunning 35-3 lead. Making the lead even more insurmountable was the fact that Bills QB Jim Kelly had been injured in the final regular season game, a 27-3 loss to these very Oilers. Kelly’s 31-year-old backup, Frank Reich, hadn’t started a game all season. Nonetheless, Reich tossed four TD passes in the second half, three of them to Andre Reed, as Buffalo scored 28 unanswered points to force overtime. In OT, the Bills’ Steve Christie kicked a 32-yard field goal as Buffalo completed the 32-point comeback – a record to this day – winning, 41-38. The Bills won their next two games before losing in their third straight Super Bowl.
