Week 13 - "Marino's Fake Spike"

"You don't try that on good teams, you try that on the Jets, and it works." - Gary Dell'Abate

On November 27, 1994, Dan Marino illustrated the skill and smarts that made him a Hall of Fame quarterback. Playing against the Jets at a chilly Giants Stadium, Marino delivered a clutch performance, throwing for 359 yards and four touchdowns, all of them to receiver Mark Ingram. The Jets led 10-0 at halftime, and then 24-6 towards the end of the third quarter. That’s when Marino went to work: he completed five out of six passes, the last of which was a 17-yard touchdown. On his next drive, in the fourth quarter, he completed five consecutive passes, the last one being a 28-yard toss to Ingram. And then, with Miami down 24-21 on their final drive, Marino completed seven of eight; the last of those, another touchdown pass to Ingram. It came after the quarterback pretended to spike the ball, which caught the New York defense napping. The Dolphins won it, 28-24; that season, they would win the AFC Wild Card game before losing 22-21 to the Chargers.
