It’s not often that a sporting event is best remembered for a postgame press conference. But it happened on October 16, 2006 in the aftermath of a game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Chicago Bears in Glendale, Arizona. The game itself was dramatic but sloppy: the teams combined for eight turnovers, six of them by Chicago. The 1-4 Cardinals were beating the undefeated Bears 20-0 at halftime, and then 23-10 after the third quarter. But the Bears’ dynamic defense and special teams came through in the fourth quarter, with a 40-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Charles Tillman with five minutes left and an 83-yard punt return for a touchdown by Devin Hester with three minutes to go – and the Bears pulled it out, 24-23. After the game, when Cardinals coach Dennis Green was asked by a reporter a question about his team’s defense, Green lost his cool. He issued a tirade peppered with vulgarities in which he repeatedly screamed: “They are who we thought they were!” The Bears went on to win the NFC title, while the Cardinals finished the season 5-11.

Ty Burrell is an Emmy award-winning actor and comedian who stars in the sitcom, Modern Family – and who has appeared in films such as The Incredible Hulk and Muppets Most Wanted. While growing up in a small town in the Oregon woods, Burrell, whose father was from the Los Angeles area, became an enormous Rams fan. His uncles occasionally bought him Rams gear, such as hats or scarves, which Burrell would “cling to desperately,” he has said. As a kid, he read everything about the team and remembers being crushed when they lost to the Steelers in Super Bowl XIV, in 1980.
