Week 15 - "Miracle at the Met"
A memorable final quarter for the Minnesota Vikings, punctuated by the heroics of wide receiver Ahmad Rashad, highlighted a comeback win over the Browns during Week 15 of the 1980 season. On a Sunday afternoon at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, MN, the 8-6 Vikings trailed the 10-4 Browns at halftime, 13-0, and then by 23-9 midway in the fourth quarter. Then Tommy Kramer, the Vikings’ QB who’d complete 38 of 49 passes for 456 yards, went to work: he threw a 7-yard TD pass to Ted Brown and a 12-yard touchdown throw to Rashad to make it 23-22. After forcing a punt in the final minute, the Vikings still had a remote chance, starting from their own 20. A hook-and-ladder play for a long gain moved the Vikings into Browns territory, making possible one final Hail Mary attempt. And it worked: as time expired, Kramer heaved a desperation pass down the right sideline that was tipped in the air and deftly caught in a crowd by Rashad for the touchdown and a 28-23 victory.
