2008 - Steelers vs. Ravens
AFC Championship
"This was a heavyweight fight with uppercuts, with haymakers." -Michael Davies, Men in Blazers
In 2009, on a cold but electric January evening at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, the Steelers won a dramatic, defensive-oriented affair against the Ravens in the AFC Championship. The Steelers led the entire game, including by 13-0 in the first half thanks to a pair of field goals and a 65-yard pass play from Ben Roethlisberger to Santonio Holmes. But the tension heightened in the game’s final minutes, as the Ravens trailed just 16-14 and had the ball. That’s when Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu made the play of the game, intercepting a Joe Flacco pass and running it back for a 40-yard touchdown to put the game out of reach, 23-14. The Steelers followed the victory up two weeks later with a Super Bowl win.
