"Minneapolis Miracle"
Ten seconds remained in the NFC Divisional playoff matchup in Minneapolis between the Saints and the Vikings in January 2018, and New Orleans seemed ready to clinch a spot in the NFC Championship game. And then something peculiar and improbable happened. The Saints had gone ahead, 24-23, on a late field goal, and the Vikings had no timeouts left and the ball at their own 39. Quarterback Case Keenum caught a snap from the shotgun and dropped back. He threw a pass near the right sideline to wide receiver Stefon Diggs at the Saints’ 35. The ball was high, forcing Diggs to jump for it, just as Saints’ rookie safety Marcus Williams closed in on the play. While Diggs was airborne, Williams suddenly pulled up right behind Diggs, and – rather than make the tackle – ducked to Diggs’ left. Diggs caught the ball and Williams went flying past him, bumping into a Saints teammate, and leaving Diggs all alone. Diggs stumbled and nearly stepped out of bounds but righted himself and cruised into the end zone for the game-winning 61-yard touchdown. “Are you kidding me?” cried Paul Allen, a radio play-by-play announcer for the Vikings. “It’s a Minneapolis Miracle!”
