Miami Dolphins
A year after their perfect 17-0 season, Don Shula’s Dolphins repeated as Super Bowl champs by going 12-2 in the regular season and easily winning their three playoff games. In the postseason, Miami beat the Bengals 34-16, the Raiders 27-10 for the AFC crown, and the Vikings, 24-7, in the Super Bowl. Despite playing a much tougher schedule after their 1972 perfect season, the '73 Dolphins allowed a league-low 10.7 points per game and finished fifth in scoring. Miami featured Pro Bowlers all over the field and on both sides of the ball. On defense it included safety Dick Anderson, who finished tied with an NFL-best eight interceptions; safety Jake Scott; Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti; and defensive end Bill Stanfill. On offense, players who had Pro Bowl seasons included Hall of Fame QB Bob Griese (17 TDs, 8 interceptions); running back Mercury Morris, who had 10 rushing TDs and led the NFL with 6.4 yards per carry; Hall of Fame fullback Larry Csonka, who rushed for over 1,000 yards; and Hall of Fame receiver Paul Warfield, who caught 11 TD passes.
