Hopes were high in Buffalo, after the Bills won a franchise record 13 regular season games and led the NFL in scoring. The K-Gun offense was led by Hall of Famers Jim Kelly at QB (2,829 yards, 24 TDs), Thurman Thomas at running back (13 total TDs, NFL-best 1,829 total yards), and Andre Reed (945 yards, eight TDs) at wide receiver. The defense starred future Hall of Famer Bruce Smith, who had 19 sacks and won Defensive Player of the Year. Kelly would throw for 300 yards in consecutive playoff games as the Bills beat the Dolphins, 44-34 and the Raiders, 51-3. In Super Bowl XXV, the Bill Parcells-coached Giants kept the Bills offense off the field by having possession for over 40 minutes. Buffalo still had a chance to win. But Scott Norwood missed a 47-yard field goal attempt wide right with 8 seconds left and Marv Levy's Bills lost, 20-19.

“Men in Blazers” is a TV show and podcast focused on international soccer. Its hosts, Michael Davies and Roger Bennett, are England natives who became die-hard NFL fans in the 1980s. Davies fell in love with American football in January 1985 during Super Bowl XIX between the Dolphins and 49ers, which pitted Dan Marino against Joe Montana. And Bennett fell in love with the 1985 Chicago Bears; he has said that his life’s biggest regret was his camera jamming while posing for a photograph with Walter Payton.
