Green Bay Packers

It was the first of three consecutive championships for the Green Bay Packers.

Coach Curly Lambeau’s Packers went undefeated in 1929 with a 12-0-1 record and won the NFL championship in a pre-postseason era. For the entire season, the Packers scored 198 points and gave up 22 and shut out 8 of their 13 opponents. All-Pro halfback Verne Lewellen scored seven scrimmage touchdowns, Hall of Fame halfback Johnny Blood scored five TDs, and rookie Herdis McCrary scored four. Green Bay’s most important win was its November 24 defeat of the Giants by 20-6 at the Polo Grounds. The Giants would finish with a 13-1-1 record and in second place among the NFL’s 12 teams.
