First team to win back to back championships.

In 1922 and 1923, the Canton Bulldogs won back-to-back championships with a defense that allowed under two points per game. The Bulldogs, who were coached by Hall of Famer Guy Chamberlin, went 10-0-2 in 1922, beating opponents by a combined score of 184-15. The following year, they were even better, going 11-0-1 and outscored their opponents 246-19. They posted shutouts in 17 of their 24 games, with their biggest wins coming over the Oorang Indians (41-0); the Louisville Brecks (38-0 and 37-0) and the Cleveland Indians (46-10). In 1922, Canton’s top players included Chamberlin, who scored seven TDs; along with Ed Shaw and Norb Sacksteder. In 1923, tailback Lou Smyth rushed for seven touchdowns while fullback Doc Elliott ran for six.
