"We knew that we were the team to beat, and now we just gotta go lay everything out on the football field." - Jerry Rice

The 1989 San Francisco 49ers went 14-2 and outscored their three playoff opponents 126-26, en route to a fourth Super Bowl title in 9 seasons. The 49ers' two losses were by a combined 5 points, while during the regular season, Joe Montana led the league’s highest scoring offense with NFL highs in passing yards per game (270.8), completion percentage (70.2), yards per attempt (9.1) and passer rating (112.4). Jerry Rice had a typical brilliant year with league bests in TD catches (17) and receiving yards (1,483). Other key offensive weapons included running back Roger Craig, who had over 1,500 yards from scrimmage, and wideout John Taylor, who had 1,077 yards receiving and 10 TD catches. Meanwhile, the defense, which ranked third in fewest points allowed, starred Hall of Famers Ronnie Lott (5 interceptions) and Charles Haley (10.5 sacks). San Francisco beat the Vikings, 41-13 in the NFC Divisional Round and then beat the Los Angeles Rams, 30-3 in the NFC Championship. Under first-year head coach George Seifert, the 49ers defeated the Broncos, 55-10 for their second straight Super Bowl title.
