The 1954 Cleveland Browns, coming off three straight NFL Championship losses, became champs again and thrashed the Lions, 56-10 for the title. In the regular season, the Browns went 9-3 to capture the East Division by averaging 28-points per game, which was second in the NFL, while allowing a league-low average of 13.5 points. Offensive stars under the legendary Paul Brown included Hall of Fame quarterback Otto Graham, who led the Browns to the second of 3 NFL Championships; Hall of Fame end Dante “Gluefingers” Lavelli, who finished fifth with 802 yards receiving while Lou Groza nailed a league-high 16 field goals. In the Browns’ championship rout of West Division champion Detroit, Graham threw three touchdowns passes and ran for three more.
