Oakland Raiders

"They wanted to do their job and they wanted to win." - Matt Millen

The 1980 Oakland Raiders were a surprise Super Bowl winner. In Week 5, starting quarterback Dan Pastorini suffered a season-ending leg injury. The Raiders were 2-3 and turned to QB Jim Plunkett. A former #1 overall pick, Plunkett led the Raiders to 9 wins in their final 11 regular season games. After finishing the AFC West with an 11-5 record, the Raiders defeated the Oilers and former Raiders QB Ken Stabler, 27-7, in the AFC Wild Card. In the Divisional Round, Raiders safety Mike Davis picked off a Brian Sipe on a play known as "Red Right 88." The Raiders beat the Browns 14-12. Oakland next defeated San Diego 34-27 in the AFC Championship Game. In Super Bowl XV against the Eagles, Plunkett threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns while on defense, linebacker Rod Martin intercepted three passes, a Super Bowl record. The Raiders won Super Bowl XV, 27-10.
