Minnesota Vikings
The 1969 Vikings largely steamrolled through the regular season and won the NFL Championship, but they lost in Super Bowl IV despite being 12-point favorites. Coached by Hall of Famer Bud Grant, the Vikings went 12-2 during the regular season and were dominant on both sides of the ball. They scored 27.1 points per game and gave up just 9.5 – both No. 1 in the league. Vikings QB Joe Kapp had a Pro Bowl season, tying a NFL record with 7 passing TDs in one game while wide receiver Gene Washington also had a Pro Bowl year with 821 yards receiving and nine TD catches. Cornerback Bobby Bryant had eight interceptions for Minnesota, and safety Paul Krause made the Pro Bowl. After beating the Rams, 23-20, in the Divisional playoff round, the Vikings blew out the Browns, 27-7 in the NFC Championship. But facing Hank Stram’s Chiefs, they faltered in the Super Bowl, losing 23-7.
