Kansas City Chiefs

"Offensively the Chiefs were really formidable." - Michael MacCambridge

The 1966 Kansas City Chiefs, who were coached by the Hall of Famer Hank Stram, won the AFL title but lost big to Vince Lombardi’s Packers in Super Bowl I. The Chiefs were by far the AFL’s best team in 1966: they posted an 11-2-1 regular season record, had the league’s best offense (32 points per game), the AFL’s second best scoring defense, and they won the AFL Championship game, 31-7 over the Bills. Their Hall of Fame QB, Len Dawson, threw for a league-best 26 touchdowns and had the AFL’s best completion percentage, while 24-year-old receiver Otis Taylor had a Pro Bowl season with 1,297 yards receiving and eight TDs. On defense, Bobby Hunt and future Hall of Famer Johnny Robinson, had spectacular seasons with a league-high 10 interceptions each.
