Denver Broncos
The 2013 Broncos scored 37.9 points per game, the highest average in NFL history, but were blown out in the Super Bowl. Denver’s offensive season was truly historic: their 606 points were over 160 more than the Bears, who had the NFL’s second-best offense. The Broncos totaled 7,317 yards, which was over 1,200 more than any other team, and they led the NFL by a huge margin in TD throws. Their quarterback, Peyton Manning, broke all-time passing records with 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns. Four players caught 10 or more TDs, including Pro Bowl receiver Demaryius Thomas (1,430 yards receiving, 14 TDs) and Eric Decker (1,288 yards, 11 TDs.) Coached by John Fox, the Broncos went 13-3 in the regular season, which was tied for the NFL’s best record, and reached the Super Bowl with wins over the Chargers and Patriots. But facing the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLVIII, the Broncos’ offense went dormant against the league-best defense, while the Denver defense was dismantled. The final score: 43-8.
