Chicago Bears
The 1943 Chicago Bears went 8-1-1, had the league’s best offense, and defeated the Redskins in a championship game rout, 41-21. With George Halas serving in the Navy, the Bears, led by co-coaches Hunk Anderson and Luke Johnsos, averaged over 30 points a game and relinquished just under 16. Their offense was led by the Hall of Famer Sid Luckman, who had a league-best 28 touchdown passes. The All-Pro Luckman, who also led the NFL with 2,194 passing yards, was aided by halfback Harry Clarke, who scored nine touchdowns. Luckman and Clarke were also the stars defensively as well: Clarke intercepted five passes while Luckman picked off four. In the championship game at Chicago’s Wrigley Field, Luckman outdueled Washington's Sammy Baugh, throwing 5 touchdown passes while 35-year-old Bronko Nagurski added a rushing score in the Bears championship win.
