Alex Mack agrees to terms with Jaguars on offer sheet

Alex Mack's visit to the Jacksonville Jaguars has resulted in a new contract. Time will tell if it results in Mack leaving Cleveland.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Mack agreed to the terms on the Jaguars' five-year offer sheet, according to a source close to the center. On Thursday, Rapoport added that the offer sheet will be executed on Friday, per a source with knowledge of the situation.

The Browns designated Mack as their transition player, which allowed him to visit other teams and sign a new contract. ESPN first reported that Mack will sign an offer sheet this week.

Cleveland will have five days to match the Jaguars' offer once it is executed. If the Browns choose not to match the contract, the Browns won't receive any compensation in return.

The sides have talked about several contract options, and it's not clear how much Mack is due to collect under the new deal. However, Rapoport notes that the contract would make him the highest paid center in football, whether he winds up with the Jaguars or Browns.

We'll have to see the terms of Mack's contract, but it's safe to say the Jaguars will do everything possible in order to discourage Cleveland from matching the deal. Still, there's a strong chance the Browns will match any offer. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam indicated as much this week.
