Dwayne Bowe is pumped up that Romeo Crennel is running the show for the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Romeo is awesome,” the wide receiver said last week, according to the Chiefs' official site. “That guy knows how to handle a team and how to manage a team. He definitely knows how to treat the players. He’s knows the players’ needs and respects the players.
“Having a coach like that, especially for the younger guys, it definitely changes the whole outlook on football. If you get a coach that walks with you step-by-step through the process instead of just throwing you out there in the water. Romeo coaches and he explains. He wants what’s best for his players."
It's not hard to connect the dots here and see Bowe, like many Chiefs, was completely fine with Todd Haley's exit from the picture. Kansas City fired Haley with three games remaining in the 2011 season. The team's play subsequently improved, and Crennel was widely praised as a breath of fresh air.
“Over those last three games with him last year, guys had so much more energy and were so much more confident," Bowe said. "Guys are so excited to come back to him, you can’t even imagine.”
The Chiefs have had a nice offseason, fortifying the offense with the additions of right tackle Eric Winston, running back Peyton Hillis, tight end Kevin Boss and quarterback Brady Quinn.
Bowe -- who received the team's franchise tag last month -- was pleased to see the team act aggressively.
“I’m loving what they’re doing for the Kansas City Chiefs,” he said. “We’ve been waiting on guys established as pros, some of the younger and more elite (free agents) to come and be Chiefs. (General manager) Scott Pioli going out and getting those guys and it’s only going to bring more excitement, more fans and more wins."
