There haven't been too many bright spots for the Miami Dolphins this season, but rookie running back Daniel Thomas has given fans one reason to be hopeful about the future.
When Thomas has been healthy, he's been one of the better backs in the NFL, averaging 4.9 yards per carry and more than 100 yards per game. Thomas' problem is that he's only played in two of the Dolphins' four games, though all signs point to him being back on the field for the Dolphins' Monday night game against the New York Jets.
Thomas, who missed a Week 4 loss to the San Diego Chargers with a nagging hamstring injury, was a limited participant in practice for a second consecutive day Friday, and he told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that he should be able to play provided he doesn't suffer a last-second setback.
"It's been pretty frustrating. Missing games my rookie year is the last thing I want to do," Thomas told the paper. "I've missed the first few games, but at the same time it's gotten a whole lot better and I feel like I'll be ready to go."
Cornerback Vontae Davis (hamstring) also was a limited participant Friday and has not played since the Dolphins' Week 2 loss to the Houston Texans.
