Here's a list you don't want to be on. Every week, Around The League breaks down five coaches whose seats are warming up as the weather cools down.
Is your coach feeling the heat? Pretend you didn't see the illustration above and find out.
1. Ken Whisenhunt, Arizona Cardinals
(Last week: No. 3)
You know the feeling when you wake up from a nightmare and that wave of relief washes over you when you realize the maintenance guy from the carnival hasn't murdered your entire family? Whiz woke up and still lost 58-0. The axe-wielding carny might be a better fate than finishing this season.
2. Andy Reid, Philadelphia Eagles
(Last week: No. 2)
The good news for Reid is that the Eagles finally won a game. The bad news is everyone in the universe knows Reid has no chance of survival regardless of how this plays out. In fact, Reid might soon join Norv Turner in the club of coaches so doomed they don't even get residency on The Warming Seat.
3. Mike Mularkey, Jacksonville Jaguars
(Last week: No. 4)
If I'm Mularkey, I'm growing out the mustache right now ahead of my inevitable post New Year's "meeting" in Shahid Khan's office. That gives you about three weeks to grow a bushy conversation piece that will avoid that whole 3-13 thing.
4. Chan Gailey, Buffalo Bills
(Last week: Unranked)
Bills general manager Buddy Nix is on record saying Gailey's job is safe. That should be enough to keep him off this list. Of course, botching home games in December to the St. Louis Rams has a way of changing opinions.
5. Dennis Allen, Oakland Raiders
(Last week: Unranked)
Another ATL Warming Seat debut. General manager Reggie McKenzie has preached patience in rebuilding the Raiders, and canning your coach after one season doesn't really fit. But the Raiders stink, and we still have our fingers crossed that Mark Davis will flip a switch and become a more volatile version of his old man.
