When the New England Patriots brought back Austin Collie earlier this month, we wondered out loud if it was a patch destined to last a week or two -- at best.
In the end, it lasted three.
The Patriots on Friday released the veteran wide receiver for the second time this season after initially cutting him in November. Collie, 28, was used sparingly this time around, playing just 15 snaps against the Browns in Week 14, followed by 22 against the Dolphins and just one against the Ravens last Sunday.
The need for Collie dried up with the return of Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins, but we wouldn't be surprised to see New England rehire the wide receiver if they get into another jam.
