Austin Collie works out for San Francisco 49ers

Austin Collie's pursuit for NFL work continues.

The former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver took part in a workout for the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, according to Mike Garafolo of USA Today. Collie's workout came two days after it was reported that he had a workout with the New England Patriots.

Collie is coming off an abbreviated final season with the Colts, in which he suffered another concussion and ruptured the patellar tendon in his right knee. He has been medically cleared on both issues, which has allowed the 27-year-old to begin his comeback tour.

A healthy Collie would be an intriguing option for the 49ers, who lost their top wideout indefinitely when Michael Crabtree suffered a torn Achilles tendon last week.

The 49ers also have Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams coming back from serious knee injuries. Collie might be worth a flier, if you're willing to ignore the medical red flag flapping just above him.

UPDATE: NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that Collie's visit went very well, per a source, but no move is imminent because of pending vacations by 49ers brass.

The 49ers' need for receiver depth increased Thursday, after Harbaugh told reporters that Brandon Carswell tore his ACL in his first practice with the team. The 49ers signed Carswell on Wednesday.
