Autopsy shows ex-Raiders DT McGlockton died of enlarged heart

The Contra Costa County sheriff's office said Monday that former NFL defensive tackle Chester McGlockton died last November from an enlarged heart.

McGlockton, 42, suffered from left ventricular cardiac hypertrophy, according to his autopsy, said sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee, via the Bay Area News Group. The condition causes the thickening of the heart muscle leading to a decrease in the size of the ventricles. It is often associated with high blood pressure.

The Raiders drafted McGlockton in the first round in 1992. He played for them in Los Angeles and Oakland and later played for the Chiefs, Broncos and Jets, racking up 51 career sacks.

McGlockton was just starting a career in coaching when he died.
