This is the first in a series looking at the best position tandems in the Big 12 taking into account both college production and pro potential. Today, the best pair of running backs in the Big 12.
The best: Baylor
The duo: Lache Seastrunk and Glasco Martin
The reasoning: For a conference that has been at the epicenter of the spread passing revolution, the Big 12 has a plethora of fine running backs this season. Texas is getting back to its power roots with Johnathan Gray, Joe Bergeron and Malcolm Brown. James Sims might be the nation's most overlooked player because he played for a lousy Kansas team. Houston transfer Charles Sims gives West Virginia another versatile asset.
But there is no finer pairing in the Big 12 than Martin and Seastrunk, bringing thunder and lightning to the devastatingly effective and balanced Baylor spread. Martin is a punishing runner capable of wearing down opponents, while Seastrunk can deliver an explosive play anytime he touches the ball.
After Seastrunk finally became a consistent part of the offense last season, he and Martin combined for 1,409 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns during a six-game stretch that included wins over Kansas State, Oklahoma State and UCLA.
If Seastrunk and Martin continue that torrid pace, there's no reason the Bears cannot emerge from a jumbled conference as Big 12 champions headed to a BCS bowl, something not even Robert Griffin III could manage.
Next up in this series: Wide receivers.
