There's a last-minute change at quarterback for the Chicago Bears.
Bears quarterback Nathan Peterman is now starting against the New York Jets on Sunday after Trevor Siemian hurt his oblique during warmups, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reports, per a source. The team has since announced the news.
Siemian was slated to start for Chicago after Justin Fields (left shoulder; questionable) was declared inactive for the game. Peterman was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday in preparation of being Siemian's backup, but his number has now been called before kick off.
Peterman hasn't started a game since Week 9, 2018, completing 31 of 49 passes for 188 yards and three interceptions for the Bills in a blowout loss to the Bears. The former fifth-round pick was released by Buffalo just two weeks later.
Peterman spent the last three seasons with the Raiders as a backup but saw little playing time behind Derek Carr. The 28-year-old now finds himself back in a starting lineup at the 11th hour on Sunday, and has an opportunity to make the most of what will be his fifth career start.
The Bears (3-8) and Jets (6-4) kick off at 1 p.m. ET.
