Belichick pulling for friend LaRussa in World Series finale

Of course, Bill Belichick and Tony LaRussa are buddies. Of course they are.

Iconic coaches in their respective sports, two serious men who take their image of being serious men seriously.

Belichick wore a LaRussa home jersey during his press conference on Friday, where the Patriots coach was asked about the roller coaster World Series the St. Louis Cardinals have pushed to a seventh game against the Texas Rangers on Friday night.

"(I'm) happy for Tony and wishing him well tonight," Belichick said of the Cards manager. "That team has shown a lot of resiliency and physical toughness, mental toughness from being way behind in September and in the Series in various games."

LaRussa's Cardinals put together one of the great comebacks in World Series history on Thursday night, twice tying the game after being down to their final strike, then forcing a seventh game behind David Freese's walk-off home run in the 11th inning.

Belichick and LaRussa's friendship goes back some time, according to the Pats coach. Belichick flashed his sense of humor when initially asked if he watched Game 6.

"No, I fell asleep," he said. "Yeah, I did watch it. What a game, what a game."

Somebody give this man a sitcom deal.
