Baltimore Ravens safety Bernard Pollard reportedly has been fined for a hit on a New England Patriots player, but it's not the one you're thinking of.
The Boston Herald reported Friday that Pollard has been fined $15,250 for a shot to the head/neck area of wide receiver Wes Welker.
Pollard was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play, which occurred in the third quarter of Baltimore's 28-13 win. Later in the game, Pollard delivered a crushing hit on running back Stevan Ridley, a play that knocked Ridley out of the game and caused the turnover that effectively doomed the Patriots' season.
Pollard's helmet-to-helmet hit on Ridley was legal. He was not penalized on the play.
The business side settled, Patriots fans can go back to imagining an alternate universe where Bernard Pollard is a mild-mannered car salesman and not a hitting machine seemingly hellbent on injuring every Patriots skill player of merit before his time in the NFL is through.
