The secondary woes continue for the Detroit Lions.
Thursday the team placed cornerback Bill Bentley on injured reserve with a hurt shoulder, according to MLive.com.
Bentley was targeted in April's draft by general manager Martin Mayhew to replace Eric Wright, who signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the offseason.
The third-round draft pick tallied 15 tackles but struggled to stay healthy this season, suffering a concussion in Week 1 and injuring his shoulder in the Week 6 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
When he was on the field Bentley showed flashes of being the playmaker he displayed at Louisiana-Lafayette, but struggled to avoid pass interference penalties -- following the Bryant Westbrook playbook.
More importantly for the Lions, safety Louis Delmas is still sitting out practice. Delmas is the key cog in the Detroit secondary. He covers up many of the secondary's faults and is its best run defender. He just can't stay healthy -- essentially he is Detroit's Bob Sanders.
