Tom Brady's two-year extension with the New England Patriots was finally filed after the NFL's new league year opened.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports the deal is for two years, $41 million with $28 million as a signing bonus. Brady's base salaries in 2015 and 2016 drop from $9 million to $1 million. In 2018 and 2019, Brady will have base salaries of $14 million with roster bonuses of $1 million each year.
Brady, set to turn 39 in August, will have salary cap numbers of $14 million in each of the next two years. That number shaves off a few million from the Pats' cap -- Brady was set to count $15 million against the cap next season and another $16 million in 2017 under his former deal.
The quarterback's cap number is set to jump to $22 million in the two final years of the deal.
This entire contract minutia is for the capologists.
All that really matters is Brady remains the most underpaid employee in the Patriots organization, but he's not going anywhere until the day he retires -- probably in 2124.
