KANSAS CITY -- The Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins will resume trade talks Thursday morning regarding Chiefs offensive tackle Branden Albert, according to a source informed of the continued negotiations.
The teams spoke well into the night Wednesday but it was not made clear if any progress was made toward finalizing a deal.
Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said Wednesday that trade compensation was the hold up in not finalizing a swap for Albert, who signed his one-year, $9.8 million franchise tender but has stayed away from voluntary workouts. It is believed Kansas City wants at least one of Miami's two second-round draft picks and possibly more. Kansas City traded its second-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for quarterback Alex Smith.
Albert told "NFL AM" he wants "clarity" on his future with the team -- a long-term deal and/or not being moved to right tackle. The team hasn't broached him about either.
The Chiefs -- Dorsey said they like Albert and aren't pressed to trade him -- are expected to draft either Eric Fisher of Central Michigan or Luke Joeckel of Texas A&M. Both are left tackles.
