DENVER -- Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams will go on trial in January for a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence and not having headlights on his car.
Williams, the Broncos' leading tackler last season, was scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on Thursday for a motions hearing. Defense attorney Harvey A. Steinberg said Williams couldn't make it because he's undergoing medical treatment. A judge rescheduled the motion hearing for Nov. 17 and set Williams' trial for Jan. 17.
Williams suffered a dislocated right elbow during the Broncos' 23-20 preseason victory over the Seattle Seahawks last week.
Williams was arrested early on Nov. 12, and the Broncos stripped him of his captaincy shortly afterward. He faces a multiple-game suspension from the NFL because it was his second such arrest in his seven seasons in Denver.
