Browns' Greedy Williams: 'I want to be a Hall of Famer'

Cleveland Browns rookie corner Greedy Williams has a lofty long-term goal: to earn a gold jacket.

"It was great," Williams said of his offseason workouts thus far, via Cleveland.com. "I'm just ready to get this season going and try to work towards being a Hall of Famer because that's one of my long-term goals is to be a Hall of Famer."

The Browns traded up three spots in the second round of the draft to snag the LSU corner, who slid to No. 46 overall after being projected by some as a first-round pick. Pairing Williams with Denzel Ward could give Cleveland a dynamic corner pairing for a long time if both live up to the hype.

Williams said he set his goal of getting to Canton after his first game at college.

"I remember my first game, caught an interception and I said, when I get to the NFL level, I want to be a Hall of Famer," he said. "My job isn't finished until I have a gold jacket. It's just one of those things me and my stepdad just sit down and talk about."

It's an ambitious goal for the rookie to be talking about the HOF out of the gate, but no one should scoff at this stage. Every professional athlete, to make it this far, should believe themselves worthy of becoming the best. To stifle that confidence early is wrongheaded and petty.

Williams has a long way to go to achieve his ultimate goal. The real journey starts when the pads come on at training camp in July, and the rookie can start proving doubters who believed he lacked physicality wrong.
