Browns QB McCoy's season ends with controversial concussion

The Cleveland Browns have officially ruled out quarterback Colt McCoy for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, ending his season.

The decision comes one day after McCoy, who suffered a concussion against the Steelers in Week 14, defended the Browns medical staff's handling of his injury in remarks to the media.

The NFL gave Steelers linebacker James Harrison a one-game suspension for the helmet-to-helmet hit on McCoy.

Browns coach Pat Shurmur indicated earlier this week that McCoy would be cleared to practice and possibly play. Instead, the second-year pro will end his season by missing his third consecutive game. Backup Seneca Wallace will start in McCoy's place.

McCoy finished with 2,733 passing yards, 14 touchdown throws and 11 interceptions in 13 starts.

"I think he improved quite a bit from the first game to the last game he played in," Shurmur said Friday.

Browns wide receiver Jordan Norwood, who hasn't played since suffering a concussion in a Week 15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, also has been ruled out. Offensive tackle Tony Pashos will miss the finale with an ankle injury and an illness.
