Browns working phones to land first-round QB?

The phones continue to ring in Cleveland.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday, hours before the 2016 NFL Draft, that the Browns have spoken with teams about moving down in the first round from No. 8 -- and back into the first round before it closes. Are they chasing a quarterback?

While drafting Paxton Lynch out of Memphis might be too rich for the Browns at No. 8, moving down in the round could lead to a match. Whispers also have the Brownsintrigued by Michigan State's Connor Cook.

New Browns coach Hue Jackson hinted last week that he might like one of the remaining quarterbacks just as much as Jared Goff and Carson Wentz, drafted No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, to the Rams and Eagles.

"Everybody keeps talking about two of the best quarterbacks in the draft, no one knows that, right?" Jackson said, per The Plain Dealer. "We'll see how it all unfolds here in two or three years and see if we were right or wrong. But I feel very good about where we are and what we're doing."

The Browns have plenty of ammunition to shift around after last week's blockbuster trade with Philly, which handed Cleveland high picks over the next three drafts and helped them gather a whopping 12 picks in 2016, including seven over the first four rounds.

Lynch's landing spot remains one of the draft's most intriguing mysteries. Rapoport also mentioned the Bills (No. 19) and Jets (No. 20) as potential homes for the strong-armed signal-caller.
