Former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor recently went on a Twitter rant complaining that he wasn't among the 108 modern-era players nominated as a candidate for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
Speaking on NFL Network's Good Morning Football on Wednesday, Mark Brunell, who played with Taylor for five seasons, made a case for the running back being on the list.
"Look at the numbers," Brunell said. "Look at the impact he made while he was on the field. That speaks for itself right there. I think that's a great argument. Look at the production on the field, the longevity. I think you could make a great argument."
Taylor played 13 NFL seasons, 11 with the Jaguars, two with the New England Patriots. Taylor currently sits 17th all-time in rushing yards with 11,695. He made one Pro Bowl in his career. Taylor's 66 rushing touchdowns place him 37th all-time (two behind Jacksonville's other well-known running back, Maurice Jones-Drew). Taylor's 4.6 career yards per carry sit tied for 27th all time.
Taylor isn't the only former teammate Brunell stuck up for Wednesday. The ex-Jags quarterback believes his left tackle in Jacksonville, Tony Boselli, has the case to make the HOF finally.
"Tony Boselli, I think he was this close last year, I think he made it into the top 10," Brunell said. "One of those guys who deserves to be in. Will get there eventually. I don't know if it's this year, five years from now or 10 years from now. But for him to make it into the Hall of Fame it would be special."
During his seven-year run in Jacksonville, the 6-foot-7 left tackle was a bulldozing mountain who swallowed defenders whole. His career might have been overshadowed by more popular players like Larry Allen, but at his peak, Boselli was the cream of the crop. He earned five Pro Bowl nods and three first-team All-Pro selections. Then injuries cut short his dominant career.
The election of Terrell Davis this year, who had a similarly dominant career cut short by injury, could help pave the way for players like Boselli to get into the Hall soon.
