Buccaneers' Todd Bowles, 49ers' John Lynch added to NFL Competition Committee

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles and San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch have been named as the newest members of the NFL Competition Committee, the league announced Friday.

Created in 1968 by Commissioner Pete Rozelle, the Competition Committee reviews “all competitive aspects of the game,” which includes game-day operations, game technology, player safety and playing rules and roster regulations.

Bowles and Lynch join a committee that also includes co-chairman Rich McKay (CEO, Atlanta Falcons), co-chair Stephen Jones (executive vice president and director of player personnel, Dallas Cowboys), Katie Blackburn (executive vice president, Cincinnati Bengals), Chris Grier (GM, Miami Dolphins), John Mara (president, CEO and owner, New York Giants), Sean McDermott (head coach, Buffalo Bills), Sean McVay (head coach, Los Angeles Rams) and Mike Tomlin (head coach, Pittsburgh Steelers).

Lynch, 52, is a Pro Football Hall of Famer who starred at safety for the Buccaneers and has been the 49ers’ GM since 2017.

The 60-year-old Bowles, an eight-year NFL DB who played for Washington and San Francisco, is in his third year as the Bucs head coach.
