BYU's big man is back.
The Cougars' massive lineman, Motekiai Langi, signed with BYU more than two years ago at 6-foot-7 and 410 pounds. He hasn't played a down at LaVell Edwards Stadium, however, because the Tonga native has been on a church mission. Now, however, he's back at BYU and ready to prove himself.
BYU Director of Player Personnel Jack Damuni confirmed Langi's return via Twitter.
A lot has changed in the BYU football program since Langi first signed with the Cougars in 2015. Namely, the coach that made him part of the signing class -- Bronco Mendenhall -- has moved on to Virginia. It's Kalani Sitake's program now, but from the looks of things, the welcome mat for Langi hasn't gone anywhere. It's still unclear whether he'll play offense or defense; he hasn't yet been added to BYU's official roster, and the program listed him as an OL/DL upon his signing.
Regardless of position, if Langi steps right in as a starter this season, he'll face some tough early challenges. BYU's September schedule includes LSU, Utah and Wisconsin.
