If coach Jim Caldwell believes his Colts truly are fighting to the end of games, we shiver to think what the team packing it in would look like.
Naps on the field? Hacky sack on the sidelines? KFC in the locker room?
The Colts have been outscored by 155 points this season, an astounding differential for team that had qualified for the playoffs nine consecutive times before the Peytonapocolypse.
But there was Caldwell at the podium Sunday, proud of his team's plucky scrappiness.
“You can see that they are going to fight you until the end,” Caldwell said after a 31-7 loss to the Falcons that dropped the Colts to 0-8. “They’re just going to keep playing and playing extremely hard, but the thing that we have to do is we have to look at our situation and be honest with it, with everybody. The fact that there are some things that we didn’t do well, that’s why we didn’t win. We kind of look at those situations where we turn it over, and where we aren't effective in terms of our execution.”
Colts owner Jim Irsay had a terser viewpoint of Indianapolis' plight.
“We will never accept this kind of chronic losing,” Irsay wrote on his Twitter feed (via ProFootballTalk.com). “It’s an unwelcome visitor, that we will not tolerate.”
Translated out of "Obscenely Wealthy Owner Speak," Irsay's tweet might loosely translate to this:
"Sell your house, Jim. Contact your financial consult. Dust off your Rolodex. Nice knowing you."
