Cam Newton was a touchdown machine during his heyday. The former Panther and Patriot set the record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback at 75 during his 11-year career. No one is within 20 of Newton’s mark.
Despite being able to perform with his arm and legs, Newton doesn’t view himself as the greatest dual threat in NFL history.
Asked recently on the 4th and 1 Show whether he considers himself the greatest dual threat ever, Newton responded: “No. Lamar Jackson.”
Newton cited Jackson’s big-play ability because of his speed as the difference and even put Michael Vick in a different category than himself.
“Lamar’s style is different than mine,” Newton said. “He’s got big plays, any play. He’s got speed that I never had. And he’s just a legend. And then, I played the game more powerful ... I can run, but I’m going to probably get caught. Vick, Lamar, they ain’t getting caught.”
Vick currently holds the record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 6,109. Newton sits second with 5,631, followed by Russell Wilson at 5,307 and Jackson at 5,258. If Jackson hits his career average of 876 yards a season, he’d overtake Vick in 2024. Barring a catastrophic injury, Jackson will own the record within the next few seasons.
The Ravens QB, with 29 rushing scores, however, has a long way to go to sniff Newton’s record.
